I will miss you sunshine...

Tonight at 2AM we set our clocks back an hour. As sweet as it might sound to gain an extra hour of sleep, in reality most of us wake up after 7-8 hours of rest regardless to what the clocks say. I see it as an end to my getting home before the sun sets and the need to wear a headlamp to do any chores outside when I do get home. This makes for a hard time checking on animals, looking for eggs, trying to milk in the dark truely sucks! And the animals are none too pleased. I have to wake them up with a bright light shining in their faces and if they have any kind of injury, how will I find it in the dark?? Is there really any point to daylight savings time? Really?? It confuses the hell out of the chickens, the roosters don't know why they are crowing like maniacs and still no daylight, I get cranky without enough sunlight. It's true. So I will push on, hard as it may be. The springtime will come 'round and the clocks will go back and all will be right in my little piece of the planet. Meanwhile, please forgive me in my short days wintertime funk.

I have always been the one that says, "if a spider comes in the house it must die." So where did that way of thinking go over the past few months? I went into the guest bathroom and there was a large-ish spider sitting next to something heavy. I mashed the spider as I always do. (See opening statement) Well, a few weeks went past and I again went into the guest bath and found 2 tiny spiders sitting near where I had murdered the bigger one. This time something strange happened. I felt a weird sense of compassion for these 2 babies! I let them live. I even look for them every time I enter the guest bath! Are they still alive? What in the world are they eating? What about some water? How are they getting any water? They never move more than 3 inches from the original place that they showed up in! Then I think, WOW! I wish I could sit my kid down and say "stay in this spot!" ~and they do! For months!! I was thinking about putting them outside to be able to find food and water, but then I thought that that would be bad as my chickens all free range and surely they would pick these 2 right off! Well, I need to redo the bathroom floor and I will need to move the baby spiders. Now I am thinking that maybe they can be rehomed. Should I put them on craigslist? Should I ask for a rehoming fee?? What kind of life would they have outside of my guest bath anyway.... There are many dangers to a tiny spider. Even a cold night could do them in! Maybe I will set up a terrarium for them and keep them safely in the guest bath. That sounds like the most logical idea. It's a win-win! I will post pics of their new home when it is finished!
